Life in the Mexican capital throws up many obstacles, but as we found out in the return of our long-running film series, a small number of dedicated people are trying to build an electronic music scene in one of the world's most chaotic cities. Mexico City is one of the largest and most vibrant metropolises in the world, but its electronic music scene has yet to truly flourish. It's a city where vast inequality, crime and widespread corruption are everyday realities, and where nightclubs are largely reserved for the moneyed elites. For those who put music first, there are many obstacles—a lack of venues, a limited audience, very little financial gain. Whether you're putting on parties, releasing music or hustling for gigs, making ends meet is a constant struggle. But the issue also runs deeper. Malinchismo, which means a preference for the foreign over the local, is a term you hear a lot in Mexico City, and it spills over into all aspects of life. In dance music, Mexican fans and DJs will avidly follow artists from Berlin or London but pay little attention to national talent. The domestic scene therefore suffers, unable to develop an identity of its own. In our latest Real Scenes film we travelled to the colourful, chaotic capital to meet the people who are trying to make dance music work in Mexico City. We found a core community as dedicated, talented and passionate as any in the world. She makes food and travel TV shows such as When Patrick Met Kylie, The Dolce Vita Diary, When in Rome, When in Florence and Amore Al Dente, which air on TLN Canada, Discovery TLC Asia, TLC Australia, TLC Latin America, Fox Life India, TV2 Norway and other networks in 68 countries. After a recent run of bad luck with a difficult break-up and the flu, Kylie arrives in Mexico City feeling exhausted and looking for a place to lift her spirits. Within hours, she is feeling full of life after being welcomed into the home of Blair, an expat American, and her Mexican husband, Jorge, who have followed love across borders to set up their life together in Mexico City. Their beautiful flat is the perfect place for Kylie to unwind and appreciate the vitality of Mexican culture. As soon as she arrives, her experience is elevated far beyond any normal hotel stay, as she is greeted with homemade traditional Mexican treats, and stays up all night chatting to her wonderful hosts, sharing stories of what it is like to leave it all for love and travel. Feeling refreshed and yearning to explore the bustling city, Kylie follows her hosts’ advice and goes to discover the local street food scene, just a stone’s throw away from the apartment. With some of the best street food in the world at her fingertips, she discovers a true taste of Mexico with fresh fruit juices full of the ripest limes, papayas and pineapples, along with authentic cheesy tacos and delicious quesadillas cooked over an open grill. Ever the romantic optimist, Kylie is truly inspired by Blair and Jorge’s story of how they followed their hearts to make their cross-border love a reality. Jorge explains that the openness and freedom you experience when travelling to new places helps you to learn to fall in love – to find open doors and grab every new opportunity with both hands. Travelling not only allows us to enrich ourselves and our experiences, but also exposes our imaginations to the glimpses of beauty that lie hidden in every new place we visit. It is this unguarded energy that makes travelling so special, inspiring us to keep exploring and finding love in every corner of the globe. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, a gap year, a backpacking holiday, a road trip, a sabbatical, a summer vacation or just the adventure of a lifetime, the best way to experience a foreign country is to push your comfort zone and experience life like a local, breathing in the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of a country that lie buried beneath the surface. If you are lucky enough, you may even find love in the most beautiful of places. Stay tuned for more adventures with Kylie! Special thanks to Airbnb Inc. for helping make Kylie's latest adventure possible.

Hey there! We are Greg and Hillary – a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! Although we love traveling, at this point in time, we still have full time 9-5 jobs in Dallas, Texas. In August of 2016, we packed up our things, Greg quit his job, and we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! Hillary is working remotely for her CPA firm and Greg is working on this site full time. We view ourselves as fairly ordinary people, complete with an ordinary income, ordinary jobs, and (unfortunately) an ordinary amount of student loan debt (thanks UNT!). I know what you are thinking, “Aren’t travel blogs supposed to be written by hippies that don’t have jobs and live in hostels?!” Well don’t you worry, we are working on making that happen! Although we hope to become full time travelers in the next 1-2 years, this site is not necessarily aimed at people that want to travel full time. Our hope is not that you quit your job and become a long haired, bearded, Volkswagen van driving hippy. Instead, our hope is that after reading our stories you are more inspired to live a more fulfilling life from 5pm-9am! Why such the emphasis on how ordinary we are? Although we love reading travel blogs, it is easy to feel disconnected from the writers at times. It seems as though they are leading such extraordinary lives that they are somehow doing something that is unreachable to the “average” person. We are here to prove that wrong. We are here to tell you that even if you work a full-time job and only get two weeks of vacation each year-you still have the power to design an adventurous life for yourself. Afterall, that is exactly where we started before leaving it all behind to live la vida loca! After having several caffeine induced conversations about how people should travel more and shift their priorities in a way that will lead to a more fulfilling life, we decided to share our stories with you. Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Throughout this site you will find posts about how to go on a cheap weekend trip, funny stories such as the time Hillary forgot to update her passport before an international trip, and inspirational rants on why you should lead a more adventurous life!
